Subject: Feb 2021 Update

It’s been a while since we’ve had an update on the 5G/wireless technology situation in Ireland, the reasons for this probably don’t need to be stated, it’s difficult to get people to even talk about something other than covid these days! This is particularly frustrating as Ireland was leading the way in Europe with 9 county level moratoriums on 5G roll-out put in place in as many months with the last one in February 2020 being unanimous within Mayo County Council.
As trying to get local councillors to talk about anything other than covid since March 2020 is extremely difficult we have been working with groups in other European countries to try to get something in place at this higher level with a European Citizens Initiative (ECI). 22 of the 27 EU countries are now involved with weekly calls (and many, many emails!) taking place. It can sometimes be difficult to come to agreement even within our own group, needless to say finding a consensus between 22 groups hasn’t been without problems! We will persevere however.
The main reason for this update however is the recent and alarming development in Kerry. It seems that Kerry County Council reached a deal with Elon Musk in December 2020 which permits a pilot scheme of Musk’s Starlink technology in the county, a deal which to quote the Irish times was “Shrouded in secrecy” and involves “a strict non-disclosure agreement”.

Ireland For Safe Technology are currently drafting a letter to Kerry County Council to voice our concerns but we encourage everyone to share this information with as many people and contact the Kerry councillors to also share your concerns. You can find a list of Kerry councillors email addresses at:
and their phone numbers and postal addresses can also be found at:
Please be aware this does not only concern people from Kerry, this is a pilot scheme and if we do not get it halted then your town could well be the next. You can get some ideas for what to write from the open letter from Stop 5G International:
Finally we are planning to do a zoom call in the near future, mainly to discuss the ongoing ECI issues but also get updates on the legal case and a few other topics, if you would like to take part in that please let us know and we’ll put you on the list.
That’s all for now, the Kerry/Starlink situation is pressing and they will be waiting to see how much noise/outcry is generated from the public concerning the announcement so please contact the councillors and voice your concern as soon as possible.
